Narbonne defeated Marine League rival Carson pretty handily at home 65-48 but there’s no time to rest because they left soon after for the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona starting tomorrow.
They have a tough road in the TOC’s Grey Division, including a potential second-round game with defending California Open Division state champions Bishop O’Dowd. Also lurking in the division is Richmond Salesian, currently ranked No. 7 in the Cal-Hi Sports state rankings.
Bishop O’Dowd is ranked No. 11. It’s no easy task for the Gauchos but at least they leave in good spirits after a hard-fought win.
“It’s going to be a humdinger because we’re in a great division and playing against some quality teams. We just have to play smart basketball,” Narbonne coach Victoria Sanders said.
The Gauchos were 2-2 in last year’s tournament so they’re hoping to apply the lessons they learned with the experience of having most of their roster from last year back.
“We learned a lot so we have to take that as a step forward and do what we did last year,” Leticia Smith said.
