As one of the newcomers to the Pioneer League, West Torrance, fresh off domination of the Bay League, is looking to make a statement in its new league.
West won its first Pioneer League game Wednesday in a 72-28 thrashing of Leuzinger, a fellow league newcomer. Jasmine Jones had 33 points to lead West.
The Warriors’ first true test, however, comes Friday night when it hosts North Torrance at 6 p.m.
North is off to a hot start and continued that on Wednesday in a 79-39 win over Centennial. Katelyn Serizawa had 13 points to lead North.
North and South figure to be West’s biggest obstacles to securing a Pioneer League crown, so Friday’s game should go a long way toward determining how much success West will have in its new digs.
